Junior Scholar Program

The ICSEI Junior Scholar Fellowship Award Program

ICSEI is delighted to continue a new fellowship program for junior scholars (PhD students working on their dissertation research and assistant professors/lecturers who are pre-tenure) from low- and medium- income countries to support their participation in the ICSEI annual congress by covering their registration fee and some expenses.  While the Fellowship program is intended chiefly for junior scholars from low- and medium- income countries, scholars from high income countries in need of financial support are encouraged to apply and will be considered if slots are available. Preference will be given to candidates who have not previously received one of these awards. Successful candidates will receive 250 or 350 Australian dollars toward the registration fee and 250 USD toward travel expenses.  The program is intended for junior scholars working in one of the following areas: educational policy, educational leadership, and/or education system building especially as these research topics pertain to improving equitable access to quality instruction for all students.

Successful applicants each year will form a cohort that will convene at the annual congress to discuss their work.  ICSEI envisions supporting up to 10 scholars annually over three years.  This Fellowship program is made possible by President Jim Spillane being the recipient of the Spencer Foundation’s 2022 Mentorship Award (https://www.spencer.org/grant_types/mentorship-award) in recognition of his decades-long support of the next generation of scholars.

To apply, please submit a one-page (500 word) application that includes:

  1. an abstract that summarizes your research as it relates to one of the core topics – educational policy, educational leadership, education system building – and its relation to improving equitable access to quality instruction for all students;
  2. a statement about how your participation in the fellowship program will contribute to your development as a scholar; and
  3. the title of your institution and your position (e.g., Ph. D. student, assistant professor, lecturer).

Applications should be sent to [email protected]

Applications will be blind reviewed by a panel of ICSEI members.

Applications are due by Aug. 1, 2022 and successful applicants will be notified by Sept 1, 2023.
